A1-For teenagers and adults

General Educational Objective

The aim of the syllabus is to determine those linguistic elements whose control will prove the development and cultivation of the four linguistic communication activities, namely the understanding and production of spoken and written speech. The candidate is required to demonstrate the degree of language comprehension through production activities, e.g. recall something he has heard or read, isolate and use specific information, summarize or develop it, answer a series of questions about it. It is very difficult to consider the following skills as independent of each other. On the contrary, they complement each other and, especially in evaluation conditions, the performance in understanding is proved by productive activities and on the contrary, productive activities are often based on understanding.

A2 – Basic Knowledge

The A2 level candidate is characterized as a key user of the language. He must acquire a basic ability to use Greek in certain and specific situations in a wide range of language functions, but in a very simple way.​

General Educational Objective

At this level the candidate must have the basic communication skills, ie be able to use the Greek language in spoken and written language, formal or friendly, to meet daily needs and communication situations. Must be able to understand sentences and expressions that occur frequently and relate to personal and family information, shopping, entertainment, etc. Must be able to communicate using basic language skills in everyday situations / situations that require simple and immediate exchange of information around from familiar topics. They should also be able to exchange information on familiar, routine or urgent matters.

B1-Moderate Knowledge

The candidate of the Greek language levels A1 and A2 is characterized as a basic user of the language. Level B1 is the first in a series of six levels of language learning, which characterizes the language user as independent and can be considered a focal point. The candidate at this level can operate autonomously and effectively in ordinary communication situations. However, his autonomy depends to a large extent on the good mood of his interlocutor.

General Educational Objective

The candidate must have the ability to respond linguistically to situations of direct daily transactions for which the use of the Greek language is largely stable, predictable and repetitive. During the transactions, the speakers create and maintain social and professional contacts. In situations of indirect communication, speakers should be able to understand the essence and some details of an oral or written text.

The candidate must also know the relevant social habits, linguistic and non-linguistic to be familiar to some extent with basic features of modern Greek culture, especially in terms of daily life, living conditions, interpersonal relationships, social life, core values ​​and mentalities.

B2-Good Knowledge

The candidate of this level is characterized as an independent user, with greater ease in the use of language compared to the candidate of level B1. It has improved the already developed communication skills acquired from the previous levels and this enables it for greater accuracy in the use of language. He goes a little further than being linguistically self-sufficient, is aware of his mistakes, corrects any inaccuracies and develops the ability to speak continuously.

General Educational Objective

The candidate must have the ability to use the Greek language fluently and spontaneously, so that his communication with native speakers is done without pressure and difficulty. He must be able to understand the main ideas on specific and abstract topics and also handle more technical issues that belong to his area of ​​expertise. Must speak clearly and in detail on a wide range of topics and explain a point of view on a topic, presenting the pros and cons of different options.

Also, at this level the candidate must be able to handle with more flexibility and readiness the situations of daily transactions, when they present a problem or take an unexpected turn.

Furthermore, the candidate at this level must know and be able to behave appropriately, according to social habits, linguistic and non-linguistic (linguistic forms of politeness, degree of formality or intimacy, gestures, physical distance and physical contact, etc.) . Must be familiar with basic features of modern Greek culture (living conditions, social life, basic values, etc.), be aware of cultural differences and related habits and customs, as well as the misunderstandings that can be created by these differences . And of course he must be aware of the main socio-cultural differences that exist between his own society and mentality and that of the natural speakers of the Greek language.

C1-Very Good Knowledge

The candidate of this level is characterized as a capable user. The knowledge acquired from the previous levels enables him to have effective functional ability (Effective Operational Proficiency). He has access to a wide range of languages, which allows him to communicate comfortably and spontaneously. In general, it is characterized by ease in the use of continuous speech.

General Educational Objective

The candidate must have the ability to understand and use the Greek language to such an extent that he can respond linguistically to situations in which he is most likely to be involved, either as a visitor or as a temporary resident in Greece, Cyprus or in areas where the Greek language is used as a means of communication (Greek communities in other countries) or even if he meets in his own country visitors or temporary and permanent residents who use the Greek language.

The situations in which he may be involved, apart from the practical transactions of everyday life, are those that arise from personal, direct communication in order to establish and maintain social contacts or direct or indirect communication in the handling of cases in relation to various sectors. of public life (business, education, welfare, etc.).

In particular, the candidate must have the ability to understand a wide range of oral or written texts, which are long and demanding, and to recognize indirect information contained therein. Must be able to summarize information from a variety of oral or written sources, reconstruct and present arguments and references consistently. He must also have the ability to express himself spontaneously, without having to spend time searching for the right expressions and with the degree of formality or cordiality that is appropriate for each occasion.

In general, he must be able to use the language flexibly and effectively for social, academic and professional purposes. Must be able to express himself / herself on complex issues with clarity, structure, detail, using confidently connecting and coherent language mechanisms.​
